Spring and Summer greetings to all members of PDA
Welcome to our many new members! I know I have missed quite a few of you in the last few months because I have been away from PDA going to school/college.
Well I am off of school now for a few months, and I am slowly getting caught up with everything. I am going to try and get to know some of you a little bit better.
So to start us off: June is International PDA BAFF month! BAFF = Best Art Friends Forever!
Don’t be shy, take some time to read through member profiles, comment on their art and ask them to be your friend. In no time at all you will have a huge friend list on PDA. Some of these friendships will reach beyond the walls of PDA as you swap, or send each other supplies and who knows; maybe you even live close enough for a real live hook up!
At the end of June, there will be some fun prizes and some ICON awards. So start making new friends (but please don’t spam everyone) maximum 5 per day. In order for it to be a true BAFF, the other person must have accepted your friendship.

Francis is our first PDA member to receive the Lydia’s Review award.
I was mesmerized from the first moment I saw her art. It was no surprise to me that Lydia chose her as the first recipient of the Lydia’s review award.
Francis says she is new at altered art creation. Hmph! I’m thinking she was born with the talent.
Francis receives a Lydia’s Review Icon to display on her profile, website, blogs and every where else she would like to display it. It’s got her name on it so it is hers to show off everywhere!
Congrats Francis, I look forward to seeing more of your art!
Up coming and current Challenges Lydia Reveal Art Challenge June 16 to June 30th The theme is: Alice in Wonderland,
Lydia has her art challenge blog site off of PDA for hosting fun art themes. This is a chance to be the recipient of one of those funky Lydia’s Review ICONS as well as have a write up on her Review blog; it’s all about bragging rights and having fun!
Her challenges are going to be monthly with a public vote.

June Charm Swap Theme is Romance. We had so much fun and great success with the Lucky Charm Swap in March that we are having a new one for the summer months.
Charms are created in lots of 10, and you can sign up as many times as you would like keeping in mind that each time you sign up you need to make another 10 charms.
Sign ups until the end of June, create your swap pieces til the end of July and in the mail and distributed during August. Lots of time for this swap! But summer always goes fast so don’t delay!
We now have a group called Charm swappers to be the host location for future swaps so stop in and sign up to be a part of the group for the next upcoming swap which will be in early fall

Create your own Empire Challenge
This is going to be an on going long term huge Challenge.
We are starting with the Name and Currency for your country.
Check out the link here for more information its a group called Empires on PDA so come and join and start creating your own little world. Whether it is the land of birds, cats, little people, chocolate cake, renaissance, or what ever you come up with. We want to know about the characters, the landscape, what they eat and more! I just know I am gonna want to visit your empire!

Pocket Packet Friday: Everyone seems to really like this challenge so it is going to stay around for awhile yet and has moved to it's own Pocket Packet group location.
Next week will have a slight twist for the challenge in that it will be a 6 week long theme with winners every week. Ohh be ready for some singin, hoppin and boppin going on every week!

Coming soon: PDA Etsy Store: Perhaps as soon as this weekend, (if there are still a few hours left in the day) I will be setting up the new PDA Etsy shop. The store will sell collage sheets created from PDA images by PDA members, pocket packs for those that cant get enough, and ephemera packets in a variety of themes shapes and sizes.
Prices are gonna be Sweeeet!
Proceeds will help to keep the costs down for site upkeep as well as help fund weekly postage costs.

Zazzle and Café Press Shops: PDA is going to have stores on both Zazzle and Café Press. This is a great way to learn about setting up your own stores. It’s free and a great way to promote your art and maybe make a few dollars. Stay tuned for the upcoming workshop to set up your own shop.

ICONS: As you are starting to read about and hear about these new ICON thingys, more information will be posted soon under the Quick Find Tab. We are still working out all of the quirks, creating funky fun icons, (Lydia is having a blast creating these)
In the mean time, if you are a recipient of an ICON, save it to your computer, and be sure to post it on your text box on your personal profile page. Collecting ICONS is going to be a good thing and you are gonna want to collect as many as you can. (Ummm we are talking about hundreds of ICONS!)
Reminder of many new things on PDA PIF Pay it forward Art or art supplies new and used items, check it out, maybe you will find something you like and add something to the list to clear off your own table top.

Key Master Membership: It is required to access images and passwords.
I am sounding like a broken record, but we have over 300 members and only 50 or so have signed up for the Key Master group.

Free Images and Photos: Have moved to another site but they are still accessible through links on PDA. You must have a password to access these images. You must be a member of the Key Master Group in order to get the password. It’s a wild goose chase but it’s worth it in the end.

New Images and now Photos too! are being added weekly again as I can fit them in. There is actually a new image category under Free images N-Z under Z Miscellaneous. If you follow the clicks to this new image category, these are the latest 100 images that have been uploaded to the free image pool. But 100 images slip through the cue pretty quickly especially when I am on a roll so do check often.
Or you can check the images by the latest number, as well as the 2009 category.
It’s just a matter of roaming and browsing through the free image tabs. Bring your coffee and a note pad cuz you are gonna be inspired and you will figure it all out soon enough.

Yes after a few months of trying to figure out what was the best way to have both your art images, personal images and the free images on the site and not getting everyone confused as to what was free to use and what was not, I think we have finally figured it out. We have 2 Blogs – The Member Blog space at the top of main page is for all members to post. Whenever you add a blog post, it shows up as the most current blog post until you slowly get bumped down the page. Eventually your blog post will disappear off of main page but your blog posts are still available for viewing on your own profile and by doing searches through the blogs (a little link at the bottom of the member blog list takes you to all of the blogs ever posted) Any blogs that I have written using our members blog will show up on my personal profile page.
PDA Blogspot is a blog on another website. This blog is for administrators to post announcements, current art challenges and whatever important information we don’t want to get lost in the blog land of all of our members. I have added the feed to this blog on our main page at PDA so you can always see the current posts and images to that site. You are more than welcome to post comments, and we certainly encourage it especially when it comes to congrats for members, comments about art etc. If you go direct to the PDA blog you can subscribe to have a notification sent to you when ever there are new posts.

Members must be active.
Although it is probably buried somewhere in the forums, there is a rule about being active on PDA.
This site is for sharing, creating art, showing us your latest creations, telling us where to buy the fun and latest gadgets, finding freebies, downloading free images etc. But if you are an inactive member then it costs us money for space you use up and you are not contributing back.
We don’t expect you to be here every day, however, we ask that you maintain your profile and keep it current. We want to see activity on your page at the very least once every 3 months. Also, this is an art and craft image site with many free images and links to even more so there is no excuse to not have an avatar (aka mug shot) on your page.
Please upload an image of your choice as your avatar. It doesn’t have to be your actual face.
This isn’t a lot we are asking, there are instructions on how to upload images to your profile, and it isn’t very hard. If you need help with it just send me a message.
Members that continue to remain inactive for 90 days after June 1st will be removed from the site. The first ones to be targeted for removal will be the ones that haven’t uploaded an image for the avatar. So save your hiney, and show us you are a real member.

When it is busy, messages are answered in order of priority. I now have on average 2-300 emails a day, currently about 25% are from PDA.

She approves members and photos, guides you to different places on the site, does the Lydia’s Review, and will help you in anyway she can.Lydia is also the designer of all of our current ICONS. She’s an angel in disguise.

2010 PDA Logo Design The glue probably isn’t even dry yet on Valeriana’s Logos for 2009 and we are starting to promote the 2010 Logo design. Well I don’t sleep much so why should any of you. We have a whole year to create logos for 2010 so read through the specs, jot down some ideas and play when you have a chance. Cuz we all know the years go by faster now than they used to…..

Interesting newsletter with lots of info to absorb. My next stop will be the Hard Knocks School...sounds like something I could benefit from. I am not as familiar with ning as I am with several other formats and sometimes find it difficult to navigate around the site...but I'm working on it!

wow... the things that i have missed! kim you and i both are feeling the relief of not being in school anymore! (i'm taking some summer classes, but it's definitely NOT like the semester!) i can't wait for some of these longer term projects! can't wait to get started on the "create your own country" one and lydia's upcoming lydia reveal challenge with ALICE IN WONDERLAND! i can't wait! lol
