Hi I don't have many of my own to share but if you want some background images, I have a few painted backgrounds and some photos that are available on my Flickr site

I am hoping to add more but time is the problem. Anyway, use them if you find them useful - John

I have found that art-ezine, and karen's whimsy both are very kind to allow personal use images and designs. Also, some creative inspiration that can be helpful and intriguing.

Ok, so I've just decided to "go public" with my own Ning network Victorian Vignettes! :) There you will find scanned items from my collection of photos, postcards, old scraps and other ephemera. They are all free for you to use in your art, also art you create for resale. Please feel free to apply for membership if you'd like, and please read the "downloading rules" first. :) There are only 28 pictures as of now, but I'll add more as often as I manage to.

(I'm not trying to compete with you at all, Kim, by the way. As if I could - my collection is waaaay to small to even stand a chance against yours, and my intentions are anyways just to share some pictures that I really like! :) )

Maritha,

I think it is a fabulous idea, this allows you to manage your images and set the stipulations of usage.

I would love to join.

Sharon, The link is broken. I found the collection when I tweaked the URL a little. The pix are fascinating.

I don't think it's public domain, though. I found this note in the 19th century music section and similar notes in the other sections.

The materials in this collection are made available for use in research, teaching and private study. Texts and images from this collection may not be used for any commercial purpose without prior permission from Duke University.

All copyrights that exist in this material have not been transferred to Duke University. When use is made of these texts and images, it is the responsibility of the user to obtain additional permissions as necessary and to observe the stated access policy, the laws of copyright and the educational fair use guidelines.

I'm visiting this fabulous site daily until Christmas where you can grab a stunning collage sheet absolutely free - http://countdown.tentwostudios.com/index.html

Thank-you Jill for posting that info about the copyrights.

It is always important to check and double check to be sure you have the right to use images you find on the internet.

One of the biggest mistakes artists make is thinking that if they are only using it for personal usage they are not infringing on copyrights, but as soon as you post a copy to your flickr site or any blog for others to see, you are technically publishing your art with a copyright image and that is an infringement.
